GLOBAL MARKETS. Wars, energy and the digital revolution: the challenges for manufacturing
The past few years have seen continuous geopolitical upheavals. First, the war in Ukraine triggered an energy crisis due to the disruption in gas supplies from Russia, then the Middle East conflict hindered the transport of raw materials and goods via the Red Sea. This situation has strengthened the position of the global superpowers and forced Europe into a defensive stance. The balance of economic power has increasingly shifted eastwards, with China gaining substantial market share through its battery-powered products and India displaying seemingly unstoppable growth. Despite these challenges, Italian manufacturing has maintained its internationally recognised quality and continues to excel in export markets. By investing in digitalisation, Italian industry is improving its sustainability, flexibility and performance, qualities that are enabling it to weather the storm of international uncertainty.
